I installed a .cbr reader (comic books), and the shit installer added some kind of Google Chrome knock-off called “Chromium.” The uninstall tool in Control Panel/Programs did not work. This did. What I basically did was open this shit browser, and then went into Task Manager and Opened up the folder that held all the files. I took the pathway of this folder and threw it into my Recycle Bin, Ended all instances of Chromium in the Task Manager, and then quickly Emptied my Recycle Bin. Then I re-booted. You may have to delete a file in your Appdata\Local\Temp folder to get it to stop showing up in your START. Delete file chrome_installer.log”. Also see if folder C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\Chromium has reappeared. If so, drag that link into the Recycle Bin and Empty Recycle Bin ASAP.
I also had to go back a few times and keep hitting UNINSTALL in Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall Programs. Hopefully you will finally get the message
“An error occurred while trying to uninstall Chromium. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Chromium from the Programs and Features list?”
Click YES.
Finally, for those of you who have the HP Quick Start tile on the lower left-hand corner of your desktop, and are running Windows 8.1, check this folder for “chromium”, and delete that program/application.
C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
and perhaps here —>
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Because of this—> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/HP-Quick-Start/td-p/2555119
Good luck.
chromium is indeed a piece of shit
