2014 – Tokyo – Kujira-Ya – Whale restaurant – Shibuya district, Tokyo – John V. Karavitis

I had a choice of whale sashimi (raw whale), and other items. There was no “combination platter” to try all the ways that they prepared whale, so I settled for the whale steak (1560 Yen, about USD$ 15.60.

Deeee-LISH-ous. Like a New York strip steak that was made out of sweet butter. GOD BLESS WHALES! THEY TASTE FANTASTIC!

The staff was super-courteous.

No apparent need to make a reservation, but I did. Small restaurant, sat at a table, did NOT have to take my shoes off. Only real complaint is that there were no knives or forks, and the slices of whale steak had to be consumed in their entirety, the way you see people eat a fish sashimi on rice (real sushi).

I’m glad I gave it a try. More details to follow, as I post the entire story of my trip to Tokyo, Japan, for the 2014 Tokyo Marathon.
