I monitor my laptop’s CPUs temperatures using HWMonitor (free software off of CNet.com). Whenever I stream video over NetFlix, my CPUs start to overheat, hitting as high as 100 degrees Celsius (that’s the boiling point of water).
I’ve read on the Web that this is due to two factors: (1) NetFlix encrypts its stream and this has to be decrypted for viewing, which takes CPU cycles, and (2) unlike a desktop, there is only one CPU here. (Actually, I have a dual-core, but they mean that there is no separate video card. I also don’t think that ‘s true in my case.)
Anyway, it’s VERY ANNOYING, and does nothing to extend the life of my laptop.
